My Review
Just finished this book by Osho that I think is a must-read for anyone that has any religion (including athiesm). The general conclusion is that the concept of "god" by most religions as either a man in the sky (Islam/Judism/Christianty) or a series of animal gods (Hinduism) is a farce, but that Athiesm is just as bad, because it is also blind faith that there is nothing. Instead, Osho discusses a thing he calls "godliness" which, which I might argue to be called "consciousness" that amounts to the idea that there is an infinite oceanic collective consciousness, and each of us are simply transient waves in the ocean. Therefore, we are all part of God. Also, the path to this understanding is simply through meditation and looking inward, with the eventual goal of "enlightenment" that has been reached by many people in the past such as Buddha (and possibly even Jesus), at which point you recognize this fact that we are all simply waves in the ocean of collective consciousness.ter crucifiction. He also discusses how all of the religions put a great effort in getting people to come back through saying only their religion is truth and all other religions are false, and also how a large part of religion is to get people coming back through fear.
With this type of outlook on religion, just about anything is possible. No longer do we need to live in fear of God. No longer are aliens, ghosts, or other beings a farce. No longer is Earth the only existing rock with intellegent life. Also, man suddenly becomes truly free (though Osho and Buddism do support reincarnation). To take it further (through my interpretation and extrapolation), the concept of evolution going against entropy is part of god. Suddenly, there is no longer an argument between evolution and creation because they are the same (though it wasn't a bearded old man that created us). Also, any time i hear religious zealots talk about god, all I need to do is replace the word "god" with "consciousness" and suddenly, I can no longer argue with them... we are both right.
This is pretty much Buddhism, though Buddha is not a god to be "worshiped" because Buddha is just an example of an enlightened person... a model, if you will. The real godliness is something that cannot be found in any book or from any person in a position of religious power (especially child molesting priests that took a vow of celabicy, which Osho argues is unnatural and such sexual urges are obvious when there is such suppression). Instead, truth can only be found through meditation, looking within oneself with urgency, and being always aware in the present moment.
