Supermarket I love you so
How grateful I am to get to go I spend much time among the plants Leaves and fruits put me in a trance Free samples served by sushi pimps When there’s a coupon, I catch a glimpse Milk of coconuts, almonds, and soy A bit of discretion I must employ Breads and cookies, a carbo delight I stopped drinking, but the wine is out of sight Topo Chico on my shopping list Oh no, a raincheck! I’m pissed Cheaper than Whole Foods is HEB But with less womanly eye candy to see The deal of the week gives me tons of shit for free But they have no Yerba Mate tea Nonetheless, it’s cheaper to shop When my list doesn’t have trendiness at the top I could hang out here till i drop But it’s time to check out now and stop

"The natural resources of our planet are limited. Therefore, it is our duty to leave enough of them to future generations. But we do not do so. We use up natural wealth more and more rapidly, and there is already a serious shortage of several important raw materials. The sowing of waste will be the reaping of want. However, nobody else but ourselves will reap what we have sown, because the yet unborn people of the future are ourselves in new incarnations. Such is the implacable justice of the law of reaping." ~Lars Adelskogh
Oh the games of online meeting
Words and pictures, feelings fleeting It’s hard to build a solid base When there is just a still-frame face Managing a false facade While living from a matrix pod The carrot dangles; illusion stands Until a meeting on physical lands Hopes stay low as the game goes on With only so much to act upon Peering at an electronic device It’s only natural to think twice With intuition as the only advice When I ask you questions
But I get no response I wonder in the session As you show your nonchalance It could mean that you’re busy You’ve got so much to do When living in a tizzy It takes some time from you But when I see your posts At five to ten per day The message that it boasts Is for me to fade away "It is in the soul that all consciousness and all power resides. All below the soul, even the mind itself, is unconscious, automatic and mechanical in action... It is the mind working always under the law of cause and effect that creates karma... The mind is not self-conscious, nor self-acting. It has no power of automotion or of initiative. It is simply a machine, though highly sensitive and extremely powerful when motivated by spirit. As a machine, it can be made to do what it was intended to do, and that only just like any other machine. It will never do anything different from what it was fashioned and trained to do. Of course, all machines are automatic in action. But we speak of the mind as an automatic machine, for the sake of emphasizing that point. This is an important fact which must be made as clear and as definite as possible. It is a new thought to the western world. We are not accustomed to think of mind as a machine. We have always been taught that if there was anything that had powers of origination and initiative, it was mind. But that was because we had been taught a wrong psychology. Mind and spirit have been greatly confused in western psychology. Mind works only when activated by the Soul. But in western psychology mind and spirit are generally confused. But few, if any, know the difference between them... Of course, mind is a most useful instrument, provided it is kept under the control of the spirit. Mind is an excellent servant, but a very bad master. Your automobile or your airplane is a fine instrument for travel. But you must keep it under control and guide it. It has no will but your will. So it is with your mind, exactly so. If your car is permitted to run wild, under full power, it is sure to come to grief. It knows no better than to run on as it has been trained to run. It cannot see, and it cannot reason. So it is with mind, in every particular. It is your servant, but if it becomes your master, it may speedily bring disaster upon you. We have always been taught that mind reasons, but it does not reason. It acts with automatic precision exactly as it is stimulated to act... Everywhere and all the time, people act more like machines than they do like rational beings. And that is because they are moved by mind in grooves, just as they have been taught to act. It is the rare individual who does independent thinking and when one does that it is because his spirit has, to some extent, become emancipated from the domineering control of mind." ~Julian Johnson: The Path Of The Masters
"Writing isn't about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it's about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well." ~Stephen King: On Writing
Above is a full map of my trip around the world. Click on the word "Tripline" for details
Thankful for every friend I've met along the way. It has been bliss. every awkward moment; every physical injury; every look in the eyes; every touch; every deep conversation; every thought-provoking personal moment; every sight and adventure we shared; every platonic bond; every drive through the streets; every meal at home or in every restaurant; every sleeping space, no matter how luxiourous or spartan; every kiss; every hug; every handshake; every drink and smoke; every sunset, star gaze, or nature hike; every personal recital of moments of my life or the life of my friend; every language barrier; every time i helped someone improve their English; every end of the night or start of the day; every train, plane, or bus ride; every missed connection; everything lost or given away; every lesson; every smile; every consolation; ...and all that's to come... So, when i was 6 months into my trip around the world, I was sitting in my friend's flat and decided to write a retrospective on where i'd been. It was quite the journey, and it was only 2/3 of the way finished! Here is my report! The universe provides. Check out my book! Just published the second installation of Guided Meditation Treks! This one has four new meditations for your higher self: 1. Cleanse Drama Cycles 2. Ask Your Higher Self a Question 3. Program A Quartz Crystal 4. Help Another By Thought You can download it here!
Drinking from the Merlion
The adventure never ends. Singapore is a unique city in many ways, and my experience there definitely fit into that category. It's been a while since I've posted a blog entry. Basically, I decided to write a book when I get back that brings all these travels into a cohesive full story, so I'm now leaving things out of the blog and saving them for the book. I did a little bit of that in this story, but for the most part, most of what I have to say about my stay in Singapore can be found on my travel entry for this lovely city, which is also a country, as well as an island. It sits at the southern edge of Malaysia, and it is it's own little world. Check it out! I visited a paradise called the Philippines as my second stop on my trip around the world. It was amazing! Two weeks on Palawan island and a great couple of days in Manila! Check out my story! It's all about the LOVE! This is an updated version of this blog, which, when originally published, got over 1,000 hits in just a day... but unfortunately, it offended enough people where I had to make some revisions. Fortunately, this version is way better anyway, and still fully from the heart, though I did leave part of it out so can save it for the book I will write at the end of my trip! Enjoy!
My guardian angel, according to my birth year
My third stop along the way around the world was Hong Kong, Special Administrative District of China. I had a really great 5 days there, and learned so much. I am so happy to share it with you! Read all about it! The 2013 international conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression has published their proceedings, and my paper is now available online in all its glory! Check it out if you want to know the full history of the Silent Disco, as well as some in-depth technical stuff related to binaural beats, and a systems analysis for building a smart-phone-based silent disco system! I just posted a review of my trip to South Korea! I hope you like it. I had a lot of fun there, and I can't wait to go back someday. The place was really amazing, and I met some wonderful people and created some great friendships. You should go there sometime! Until then, check out my review. Burning Flipside is only a little over a week away! I'm going to miss it this year, mainly because I'll be kicking off my journey around the world, but I feel that, fortunately, my life has sort of become flipside in a way, in that I'm able to release all of my creative energy on the canvas of life as opposed to just the canvas of a burn event. Anyway, I went to my first flipside back in 2007, just a few months after I moved to Austin. I loved it so much, I went back in 2008 and wrote another deep story about my experience. It also happened to be the very same year that we wrote an entire play with a bunch of musical songs from scratch, based on the theme of the event. Here is the script from that play, called Dr. Tiki's Combustible Medicine Show! If this doesn't give you an idea of the essence of Burning Flipside, then you should go there and see for yourself! I'm really looking forward to my trip around this world this summer. I can't wait to see how the cultures in these places enlightens me and makes me see the world in a different way! Here's a story I wrote when I studied abroad in college about the cultural differences I saw when travelling in Europe, and how they are way more socially liberal than in the USA, and way less repressed! Just published this past February's trip to see Jamiroquai in Mexico with the Austin Daze! It was quite an amazing trip, and I really loved Mexico. We never felt unsafe the entire time, but maybe that's just us. Lovin' life. I was struggling in my "travel writing" course when I was studying abroad in London until I wrote an adventure paper about scoring some weed. It turned my grade around and made me enjoy writing adventurous travel stories. Here it is. Messin' around on Wikipedia yesterday and remembered that I was inspired to create an entry called Saxophonics a few years ago, outlining the guys I knew that did it. Since then, it's been highly updated, including guys that have been doing it much longer, like the dude from Traffic, who I hadn't heard of until after that entry. My original from wayback: http://web.archive.org/web/20051215000000/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxophonics Current Version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxophonics 2013, and I just realized I haven't had a blog or personal web site since modems were outdated. I've written a lot since then, so wanted a central place to store it. Why the name? Well, when I was a young lad (age 3), I was one of the 'younger' kids on the block in the streets of McKees Rocks, and the older kids came up with this "Gunky Funky" as a derogatory nickname for me. They even invented a fable and a song. I did some crazy shit back then, and kids will be kids. Getting nicknames and fables and songs; I was already living an adventure at age 3 ;-) I sometimes wonder, where are they now? Anyway, this is just yet another creative outlet for me. I hope you like it. Here's a book you should read!
My first blog post! Launching my new website today. I hope you like it! People are preparing for Burning Flipside next month. I'll be out of town, but here's my review from my first Burning Flipside! |
